Grace Kelly was an American actress and Monoco's Princess. Her life was every little girl’s dream. Today, even after her death, her life still influences us, especially her fashion choices.
Grace Kelly was born on November 12th 1929 in Philadelphia. She went to school in her home state before going on to study drama at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. Her classic elegant good looks and beautiful figure gave her many modelling jobs to fund her life while she studied.
Her first film was “14 Hours’ and soon after she went on to star in “High Noon”. Later on she won an Oscar nomination and Golden Globes award for best supporting actress for her work in “Mogambo”. It was then that the world first sat up and took notice of one of Hollywood’s most famous of girls.
Alfred Hitchcock, one of Hollywood’s most prestigious directors soon took Grace Kelly under his wing and polished her into his idea of an elegant, classy blonde. He starred her in “Dial M for Murder”, “Rear Window” and “To catch a thief”
In 1955, after going to France to attend the Cannes film festival, she agreed to attend a photoshoot with Prince Rainier III of Monaco. The pair immediately hit it off and even after going back to America, the pair kept closely in touch. It was after a trip to Grace’s home town that Rainer proposed to Grace.
Grace and Rainier’s wedding was broadcast across Europe with the world anxiously waiting to see the anticipated wedding dress designed by Helen Rose. The dress was made by 36 seamstresses.
In the years after the wedding, Kelly led a peaceful and contented life with Rainier bringing up her three
children and founding numerous charities. However on September 13th 1982 she suffered a stroke while driving a car, causing it to drive off a mountainside. She died the next day in hospital.
Even after her death we still remember Grace as the face of elegance and style. She was the most photographed person in the 20th century, has worn the most expensive dress to the Oscars to date and worn clothes from designers like Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy and Yves Saint Laurent.
